President's Letter
Quilters are really special people. Looking back at the meeting Wednesday morning, I think about some of the "quilter’s traits" that flourished during the meeting. Quilters have patience—after all quilts are not made overnight and the hours, days, weeks and months that go into creating a quilt are evidence of a patient quilter. And how can we survive the quilt making process without a sense of humor! When we have ripped out that "perfect 1⁄4" seam for the millionth time because it is not perfect, what else can we do but laugh! So to my quilter friends, thank you for your patience and laughter at the meeting.

Pete and I are heading "home" to visit our family. Phoenix isn't really home as neither of us have ever lived there, but it is "home" because our family is there. It will be fun to spend time with my mom, my quilting buddy and hit the local quilt shops—and there are several that are our favorites! Its always good to be home with family!
What does family mean to you? Is it right here in Panama City or far off in another part of the U.S. or a distant land? Is home the smell of your favorite food, the hugs of loved ones or a place that is special? And have you started your Spirit of Home Challenge project. I didn't think it would be so difficult to interpret my vision of home into a quilt—but that is why it is called a challenge.
So mark your calendars! We will all be joining together on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 9:30am in Byrne Hall to have our annual luncheon, our second annual challenge and installation of officers. It will be a wonderful day and I look forward to seeing you all there!

PATCHWORDS MAILING INFORMATION
As you have all no doubt noticed, we are currently sending our Patchwords using STANDARD PRE-SORTED MAIL. Our guild is using this class of mail to save money for our guild. We want everyone to know how sending mail with a regular first class stamp differs from STANDARD PERSORTED MAIL.
• Standard mail can not be used to mail to foreign countries. Please note all members who have a foreign address will continue to see first class stamps on your Patchwords.
• Standard mail does not entitle us to have mail forwarding or "Return to Sender" service. Please keep up the good work of letting our membership person, Sandy Sturgis, or myself, Sue Wahlgren, know of any address changes. This is a huge help to us in getting your Patchwords to you in a timely manner.

The countdown is on, only 5 weeks left. I want to thank the ladies that have joined the team. Also, I want to thank the ladies that have signed-up to walk and work the booth. Our next Team Members meeting is March 30th at 6:00pm at St. Andrews Baptist Church fellowship hall. So far with just a handful of donations we have raised almost $800.00. Our goal is $1000.00. With everyone pulling together I'm confident that we will surpass our goal by a long shot!! Reminder to everyone that has signed-up to bring cookies for our on-sight bake sale, bring them to our April meetings in zip closure bags (3 per bag).
We are in need of a tent that sleeps 4 people and a canopy type cover for our campsite at Tommy Oliver Stadium. If anyone has one and is willing to let us borrow it for the event on April 21-22 please contact me at eleni207@aol.com.
Thank you,
Helen Russo |

A Little History
In the late 1990's a group of women with a common love of quilting came together on the Internet. It was a wonderful experience, meeting fellow quilters from all over the world—and even from the same neighborhood!! A chat room created by Fabric Stash was the point of contact for many women who could only chat after the household was quiet—hence "Ladies of the Night". Does anyone really need the explanation for Royal Purple? Not if you quilt! As we chatted, the idea of a name for the group came about. Bylaws have been written, meetings held and officers elected. R.P.L.O.T.N. has a direction—a goal—a purpose! Clear out that unused stash and get some quilts out the door for people who need them!! As we chatted, we exchanged support—in written form, in quilted form—sometimes blocks, sometimes fabric, sometimes the whole quilt! As we chatted we realized not everyone lived far apart! We determined they were close together physically and "bees" also started up! As we chatted we arranged to physically meet at various quilt shows.
The energy that was felt the first time a group of chatters met for real—still gives me Moose Bumps!!! Moose?? A crazy Moose has been created for a mascot! She's holding a needle and wearing a purple bra!! There's no point explaining that one to friends—we just smile. A newsletter is prepared every month! Shared stories and pictures—plans and plans derailed! Round robins have been done, exchanges continue! Quilts made for comfort—for each other—and for strangers in need. Those who can, at the moment, are more than willing to drop a current project and involve themselves in making a treasure from the heart.
Do we dare start to count how many quilts have been made under the R.P.L.O.T.N. name?? The latest project was a Grande scale project! Six quilts from all across the world came together in the space of 7 weeks. Talk about drop what you are doing!! E-mails, fabric, squares and quilts flew across oceans and countries! It is R.P.L.O.T.N.'s finest hour! The resurgence in interest in chatting bubbled over! C'mon in and see! You can access our website at www.rplotn.com and you are most welcomed to chat with us any evening at www.fabric-stash.com. We also have an opportunity quilt with a chance stub attached. This is our main fund raiser to obtain fabric and all for our charity quilts. If any one wants more information they can contact me at jowall@ix.netcom.com.

Sunshine and Shadows
The following members have all had surgery this month, we wish them a speedy recovery:
Marilyn Hermansen has had what we all hope is her final surgery to correct the problem with her arm, that has been quite painful for several years. Marilyn, let us know if we can be of help to you.
Shirley Love has been in the hospital again. Seems she needs more sodium in her diet, after all these years of watching her intake. Shirley, we wish you better days ahead .
Elisa Hunsicker had some dental surgery, to correct a problem that has been quite painful. She was at the evening meeting looking well and on the road to recovery.
Diane Russell had a torn rotator cuff repaired. Diane take it easy and don't rush the healing process.
Our prayers are with all of you as you heal and have brighter days ahead.
Your friend,

Information about the upcoming show as well as many wonderful articles and pictures. In order for a guild to be a chapter member, at least 5 members must be individual members of NQA. Membership dues are $20 per year and I find Quilting Quarterly to be one of the more informative publications I receive.
