PRESIDENT'S NOTE
As I write this it is the day after the Christmas Bazaar and bake sale and I
am awed at the huge success of this endeavor. I want to thank all our members for their donations, participation and support. A special thank you to Bobbi Clemens and Jo-Ellen Rogers for being in charge of the bazaar, Marilyn Hermansen being in charge of the bake sale and Sally Bendschneider for taking care of the publicity. I am so proud of our guild--- not only do we have great quilters but also great cooks! Already there is talk about what we need to do next year to make the bazaar even better. I also believe it is a worthwhile project to do.
Now it is time to get busy on finalizing the quilt show business. We now have a complete slate of Quilt Show Chairmen. Thank you for accepting these positions. I hope you all have quilts to go in the show. You still have time to finish or make one. The deadline for registering is January 12, but would be nice if you sent the registration form back before that time. We are accepting quilt entries from members only. This will not be a judged show. There will be a viewer's choice award. Hopefully we will have many members to participate. All pertinent information will be in the next newsletter.
Wishing for you all a wonderful holiday season and a blessed Christmas.
Till next month—God Bless You,
Susie

Our Leader and Friends
Christmas Shoppe Bazaar and Bake sale!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make our first Christmas Shoppe a huge success!! All figures are not completed but it looks like we made over $3000.00. My personal goal was to at least make $1000.00. With everyone's help we far exceeded my goal. The bake sale alone made almost $600.00 Many thanks to all the helpers, the buyers, and support of all who participated. You are all wonderful members.

| Fall 2007 Retreat |
The Fall 2007 Retreat at Blue Springs Conference Center was quite a success. All that attended commented on the wonderful time they had, and some even commented they have not laughed as much as they did in quite a long time. The
theme for the event was "Quilting in the 1800's". All the nametags were slices of an old cedar tree branch that was growing during the 1800's and each person could earn charms to hang from their nametags for different activities they attended during the retreat. Everyone that attended was given an old fashion bonnet to wear at the Saturday Night Rally.
There were several activities to leisurely do, such as guessing the number of buttons in a jar, guessing whom famous ladies pictures was and putting the correct block name with the definition. Pat Watson won the Button Guessing Game, Angela Mueller and Shirley Rasmussen tied for the Ladies Picture game and Sue Gulkis won the Correct Block Name game. Friday nights Quilto Grand prizewinner was Andrea Harper. Sue Gulkis won a drawing for a Redwork kit given out at Saturday’s rally. The most prestigious award and honor of being crowned Fall 2007 Wal-Mart Queen went to India Belile. Dolores Fowler, Teresa Stonecypher and Cathy Short brought back their Challenge projects from the 2006 Fall Retreat. The rest of us, kept ours fabric pieces from 2006 in our stash. Winner of the Fall Retreat 2007 challenge block was Edyth Brown and she promised to have it together for the Spring Retreat. Teresa Stonecypher who won the Fall Retreat 2006 Challenge Blocks brought the top back all put together. And it was a beautiful top. Hopefully we will see these quilts in one of the upcoming quilt shows.
On Saturday Night we all Rallied together to celebrate the quilters of the 1800's . We learned a little bit of what their lives must have been likes. They had lots of scrambled eggs, picked a lot of cotton, spun their own fibers made their own fabric and did a lot of needlework. They were also very well fed. You just had to be there to understand what life was like "Quilting in the 1800's".
The Spring 2008 Retreat is already in the planning stage. So mark your/calendars. The dates will be April 4-6, 2008 at Blue Springs Baptist Conference Center.
I want to give a special thank to my mother Dolores Fowler, my sister Ann Pyle, my daughter Kristy Bradley and to our Wonderful "Chicken" President Susie Pippin for helping me keep this a surprise theme and for all the hard work they and their families did to make this a memorable event for all that attended.
Hope to see all of you at the Spring 2008 Retreat,
Bonnie Holley |
