President's Report
Wow! What an unexpected amount of publicity for the guild in our presentation of quilts to Catholic Charities' St. Barnabas House. We opened with Wednesday's Channel 7's 5:00 pm news and closed with Thursday's News Herald's lead story for Section B. A special thank you to Sarah Hough for her publicity "connections". Of course the biggest THANK YOU goes to the guild members without whose help there would be no quilts or presentations. You all know who you are...so give yourself a pat on the back.
We are now onto our next adventures: the "Celebrate Quilts" show on February 13 and 14, 2009, the 30th Anniversary Tea on February 21 with Teddy Pruitt and the Nominating Committee report. Good luck to all the quilt show entrants. I hope to see everyone at both the Show and the Tea.
God Bless you all.
Jo-Ellen Rogers

Night Meeting, January 22, 2009
Welcome back! It seems like it has been a long time since we have gotten together, it was good to see everyone. I want to give huge kudos for the December banquet, that was my first one and I must say I was impressed. You could tell a lot of time and energy went into planning and arranging for everything to be just so. Thanks for a wonderful time.
I traveled with Angela Mueller over to Niceville for the lecture given by Sue Patten and Karen McTavish. What a great time that was! They are such funny ladies; it was a pleasure to sit and listen to their stories, and to see their work up close, they even let us touch their quilts! What a treat it was, and we had a great group of ladies from Panama City that came over as well. Our opportunity quilt got a lot attention when it was put up for display.
At the meeting we had 36 members, no guests and one returning member present. Nice group. Refreshments Helen Jeroski out did herself with treats that fancied every taste bud. Jo-Ellen Rogers and Regina Johnson brought in some wonderful desserts to accentuate the table. Great job girls!
Beverly gave a reminder that the February meeting will be held on the 21st beginning at 9:30. This is a Saturday and both groups will be meeting together to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the guild. It will be a tea, so bring your prettiest teacup, as there will be prizes based on your teacup.
Don’t forget to turn in your money for the opportunity guilt; you don’t want to wind up in Bobbi’s “Big Black Book.”
We had a lot of announcements made at the meeting:
- June Bauman is having a sale at her home, (by the time this newsletter is out the sale is over)
- QBTB is having an Embroidery Bash on February 21, contact QBTB for more information
- Donna Hall reported on the Relay for Life in April, they are selling tickets for the “Flamingo” quilt
- Beverly reported on the Quilt Show, they have 77 quilts entered, she gave all the important dates for drop off, the show and pick up
- Sarah Hough talked about the Centennial Celebration and the display for the library, she got volunteers to work on the committeeTheresa talked about the Spring Retreat, sign ups are very low and if we don ’t get the rooms booked we will have to cancel the Spring Retreat
Jo-Ellen reminded everyone that the nominating committee was forming and calls would be going out in March to ask for volunteers to serve.

Trunk Show
Quilting by the Bay invites SABQG members to enjoy a trunk show of art quilts from Bigfork Bay Cotton Company. Some of the artists whose work is represented are Toni Whitney, Brenda Yirsa, David King, Ty Livingston and Lori Faye Bock. The works range from nature scenes, to whimsical cats and dogs to wildlife wall hangings including one of a buffalo that looks like it is right in the room! The trunk show will be on display from Feb 2 - 6.
SABQG helps Bay County celebrate 100 years
SABQG has been asked to host a quilt exhibit at the new Bay County Library as a part of the Panama City Centennial celebration. The exhibit will be held in August of 2009. We will be included in publicity regarding the centennial. We will have an opening reception hosted by the Library, at the Library. At the reception we will be able to have a table to sell quilt-related goods. Library staff will hang the quilts under our supervision.
- The Board approved our participation and we are now in the planning stages. Several ideas have been suggested:
- Quilts representing the past 100+ years
- Quilts with connection to families who have been in Panama City over the years
- Antique quilting notions (in cases)
Other suggestions are being solicited.
Diane Russell and I will head the committee. The following have agreed to be on the committee: Loretta Akerlind, Sally Bendschneider, Donna Gibbens, Sue Gulkis, Patty Hack, Linda Kelley, Diane McKee, Mary Molinari, Janet Ramos and Linda Aspinwall. Others have offered to help on an as needed basis. Meetings will be set at a time when it is convenient for most.
IMPORTANT! If there are any "pioneer families" represented in our guild, I would appreciate hearing if you have any family quilts you would be willing to have in the exhibit. Do you know any of the "pioneer" families? If so, please let me know how to contact them.
My mother always had lots of sayings for every occasion ... two occur to me now "Many hands make light work" and "The more the merrier." Let's all "pull together" and show the community once again what quilters can accomplish.
Please contact me as soon as possible as we need to "get the show on the road".

GUILD HISTORY
We are in the process of writing a short history of our guild. Carolyn St. Amant (a charter member) has made a very good start at compiling the history of how the guild got started and its early days. I would appreciate it if each of our former presidents would write a short summary of her time in office. What outstanding teachers did we have? When did we start having quilt shows? Where? Where did we meet?

30th Anniversary Celebration
The Board of St. Andrew Bay Quilters invites you to join them for an anniversary party. The Anniversary Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church at 9:30 a.m. THERE WILL BE NO MEETINGS ON WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY OF THAT WEEK.
The program on that day will be a lecture by Teddie Pruitt entitled "Other People's Fleas." Intrigued by the title…. come hear what it is about. We guarantee that you will be entertained. Teddie is a member of the Sunshine State Quilter's Guild and a Certified Quilt Appraiser. In addition, she is a funny lady.
Following Teddie's presentation, the Board will act as hostesses for Tea. The only thing that you will be required to do is to bring your own teacup. (Did we tell you that we will have a mini awards ceremony for the most interesting teacup?) We will serve you the usual Tea goodies along with hot tea. Good fun and fellowship will prevail. Come join us and enjoy the festivities.
