President's Report

The SABQG Quilt Show on February 12 and 13, 2010 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at the Friendship Hall of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church on Baker Court. How many times have I said or thought those words in the last several months. Our quilt show is important to the guild in so many ways. It is our opportunity to shine!

We do so much for others in the community with our charity work and we even opened ourselves to the public at the Bay County Library last August.

So now is our time to immerse ourselves into quilting. We scour our stashes for patterns, fabrics, trims and quilting designs. We chose and re-chose until we are finally satisfied and then hope we made the correct decisions. Points, curves, right angles, straight lines, thread choices, hidden knots, straight bindings, square miters and complete labels, so much to think of and so much apart of what we love to do. Quilters breathe quilts and love every minute of it. We may fuss and say we are so busy...but quilting is our passion. I hope everyone really enjoys the show and learns one more piece of the quilting puzzle. See you at the show!

Respectfully Submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

Comfort Quilts Report
Cruiser Quilts are a special comfort for children who are removed from abusive situations. These need to be soft, comfortable fabrics. Fleece and outing flannel are suggested materials. We have 25 of the goal of 100.

We have 7 quilts to go to Head Start and 1 crib size for Hannah's House.

Quilt size should be approximately: Crib: 40 x 56 - Nap: 36 x 40 or less - Twin: 65 x 88. They may vary an inch or two from these measurements but not be significantly smaller.

Another Quilt Show in Town
The Visual Arts Center in downtown Panama City is hosting a Quilt National Show February 5 through March 14.
Billed as: The Best of Contemporary Quilts. These remarkable quilts are innovative and complex works of art that have been selected for inclusion in Quilt National 2009. Marking its 30th anniversary, this biennial juried show and traveling exhibit has been called the "premier international showcase for contemporary quilts" by the Wall Street Journal.

The opening is February 5th from 7-9pm and the general public is invited. Free admission. This is a great opportunity to see some really spectacular art quilts

A small group of art quilts from "Women on the Fringe" of Panama City Beach will be included.

Notice
The JuneBug Winter Sale scheduled for Friday, January 29th and Saturday, January 30th is canceled due to a death in the family.
