July 2008 Issue Volume 3 Issue 7
From the Presidents Desk:
It has been a busy month with all the new and different duties of the presidency. Our officers and committeewomen have been planning and arranging all our programs and functions for the 2008-2009 year. I thank them for all their hard work and their sunny attitudes. Mary Nelson and Janet Ramos have almost completed our program schedules. We are lacking two night programs, but we are in the hunt. Aking Osborne has our community charity projects set and we are moving forward. At the June 25th " Workday Wednesday" we will be working on twin and full quilts for Barnabas House run by Catholic Charities. Our Head Start program is up and running with 4 nap quilts turned in at the June meetings. A group challenge has been issued to all-------50 bibs for Head Start by the July meeting from both the day and night. Get sewing ladies! I know quilters like to be busy; so pull out your fabrics and get going. Please... no bibs with buttons on them.
The treasurer's audit has taken place and we are fine financially. Thanks go to Helen Jeroski, Patty MacMonigal, Carolyn St. Amant and of course Bonnie Holley, our treasurer for a job well done.
Our classes with Paula Toups have come and gone (June 20-21). We will be waiting to see those chenille rugs and Cotton Theory table runners at the July meeting. Don't forget to sign up for the September 19-20 classes with Judy Holley. The small clamshell long cabin and the 64-point Mariners compass quilts look very good. We already have 7 students signed up. We still have some vacancies both day and night in our "Sit n' Stitch" and on the meetings refreshments schedules. If you can sign up, please do so at the July meeting or better yet call Beverly Pierzchala and volunteer now.
Patty MacMonigal and Angela Mueller are working on our membership information. Angela will have the proofs available for review at the July meetings. If your dues and information are not in by then, YOU WILL NOT BE IN THE 2008- 2009 YEARBOOK.
The Christmas Shoppe (November 22, 2008) and the Quilt Show (February 13-14, 2009) committees are busy with preparations. Our opportunity quilt top is nearly done and soon to be quilted. It is time to start thinking about your quilt show entry. The details on our judged show at St. Andrews Episcopal Church are in the making and will be finalized soon. I am looking forward to a great year full of smiling faces and happy hearts. Have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July----GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Respectfully submitted, Jo-Ellen Rogers
Reminder
Dues are due. If you do not pay by July 31 you will be out of
the yearbook and worse yet, you will not get a newsletter!!

From the evening meeting
June 19, 2008 Whew! I made it, my first meeting as 2nd Vice President. We had a good crowd even though there are lots of folks on vacation. Carol Schultz made some of her wonderful bread and Helen Jeroski made dessert for everyone to enjoy. And boy did we, I don't think there was much left of anything by the time the meeting was over. Carol also brought fresh herbs from her garden as door prizes. Thanks to Carol and Helen.
Jo-Ellen Rogers provided a program on small projects, it was very informative, she showed many ways to do small projects for quick gifts in all different formats, paper piecing, appliqué, embroidery, you name it she has done it and done it really well. Regina Johnson was out of town but sent several of her projects to share as well. Both these ladies do such a wonderful job. Thank you Jo-Ellen and Regina for sharing their projects.
We had several really nice show-n-tell pieces shown, as I said in the meeting, it just amazes me that we have such wonderful talent here. Everyone that shares projects does such a wonderful job. I am always impressed.
There was a challenge given to the night meeting for Head Start ~ 50 bibs by the next meeting. We already have 14 turned in, only 36 to go. Let's get busy and meet the challenge.
We also need to be getting quilts ready for the Quilt Show in February, there are only 80 slots available, and it will be a judged show! How exciting is that! Quilt show will be February 13th and 14th at the church.
Programs for the year are full, however, we still have openings for Sit-N-Stitch and we need hostesses for the evening meetings. If you would like to put your name down, please call or e-mail me at janetramos3@comcast.net
Till next month, have fun, stay safe, keeping smiling.
Janet Ramos

Fall Retreat
It seems early to be thinking about the Fall Retreat when it is still spring, but it will be here before you know it. It is going to be a great time for all. Put it on your calendar and plan to attend.

Where: Blue Springs Baptist Conference Center, Marianna, Florida
Cost:
2 Persons to a room $121.00
1 Person to a room $171.00
1 Private Admin Room $175.00

Swap Hop: As you are cleaning out your sewing rooms during spring-cleaning, don't throw anything away. Bring it to the retreat for our "Swap Hop". Bring anything you would like to swap, trade, or just plain give away. A "Swap Hop" table will be set up in every room and everyone can hop to each room to see what is available to swap for.
Challenge Block: When you sign up for the retreat you will receive a fat eighth piece of challenge fabric. From this fabric you will need to complete a 9" square block, unfinished. You can add as many fabrics to the block as you want as long as a 3" square of the challenge fabric is used within the block. Members at the retreat will vote on their favorite and the top three will receive a prize. The blocks will be given to the guild as a thank you for the retreat. When you sign up, make sure you receive your challenge fabric.
Sign up today to reserve your spot. Don't forget to indicate whom you would like to share a room with. You can sign up at the meetings or you can mail a check along with the below form to Teresa Stonecypher.

A REPEAT REQUEST FOR HELP
I need your help. I am trying to develop a list of ALL the "giving" projects the guild has been involved in for the last two years. We have done an incredible job but I don't think any of us realize just how much we have done. If you have been involved in projects such as Cruiser Quilts, Veterans Quilts, American Cancer Society, Head Start, etc. I would like to know approximately how many quilts and other items such as bibs were made, how many quilters were involved and if there was a monetary donation (American Cancer Society). WHEW! Please contact me via e-mail, by phone or by regular mail.
Thanks.
Sarah Hough
