PRESIDENT’S NOTE

What a surprise when I received the phone call and was asked to consider the position of guild president! My answer was --- "You gotta be kidding." I thought about it, talked with my husband, and then agreed. Then you, the members, elected me. I do take the position seriously and will do my best to work for the good and the welfare of our guild. I love quilting and the guild. I am looking forward to a very good year.

Susie
We are planning and checking into getting outside, national teachers for lectures, classes and trunk shows and also workshops by our own member teachers. Other things to look forward to are the fall and spring retreats, Quilt Expo and a new quilt challenge. Let's all work together and have the very best quilt guild possible!

Thank you all for such a special installation and for my “half cap.” Bobbi, you always do a super job and make everything special.

To the officers and committee members, thank you for accepting these positions. I am blessed to have your support and will enjoy working with each one of you. If I can be of help to anyone, I am willing. Just give me a call.

Keep stitching and May God Bless You,
Susie

From India Belisle
As your vice president and in charge of programs, I must say I was delighted with the May joint meeting and luncheon. Part of the program was the viewing the "Spirit of Home Challenge." There were eleven entries. Each was different and very interesting as they were identified and explained. (Click here to see pictures.)

1st place – Ann Vassie
2nd place – Regina Johnson
3rd place – Bobbie Clemens
Viewers' Choice – Pat Russell.

Our judge was Vicki Bush, artist and art teacher. She did a great job. I was privileged to watch and listen to her. I did not know which quilt was whose until revealed at the meeting.

The other part of the meeting was the installation of officers. Bobbi Clemens did a spectacular job. I feel like we all have been duly installed. Thank you, Bobbi. Next month, look forward to a program presented by Bobbi. I am sure it will be great as she always does a super job with anything she tackles. Also I plan to do some spotlights on some of our members each month.

See you at the meeting,
India

From Jo Ellen Rogers

I would like to express my appreciation to the Guild Board and the membership of SABQG for their vote of confidence. I will try to continue the fine traditions that our guild is known for. I would like to thank Donna Gibbens (Evening Historian), Sam Lopez (Evening Librarian) and Regina Johnson (Evening Membership/Greeter) for accepting these positions. The board has given me some hints of upcoming programs and activities and I am impressed and eager to begin. Your help is always needed and desired so please feel free to give us feedback. It is my goal to present an enjoyable year and to be as helpful as I can.

Jo-Ellen Rogers

From Sarah

Susie and I have worked very hard on a real tight deadline to put out this newsletter. I think it is great for our first attempt.

I need your help. Please email anything you would like in the newsletter to Patchwords@knology.net. The sooner the better. Note the deadline doesn't give much time for publication so appreciate some lead time. Let us know what you and your bees are up to.

Remember, if you are too busy to quilt, you are too busy.

Sarah Hough

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
On pages 5 and 6 of the May 2006 edition of Patchwords, the following credits were omitted from the Quilt Pattern of the Month. Windblown Petals quilt was designed by Debbie Beaves, made by Patricia Day and machine quilted by Paula Stoddard. The pattern is available at the McCall's Quick Quilts website – http://quickquilts.com/golden/qg52_pattern/.

Daisy Justice took quite a fall on her trip to Paducah. She broke her wrist in two places. Her cast will have to remain on for another three weeks. She seems to be feeling fine and is ready to shed the cast. Good luck, Daisy!

Janice Roberts is in Bay Medical. Tests are being run. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She has had a really rough year. We are all wishing her better and brighter days ahead.

Several members have Mothers who are not doing so well medically. These include Donna Hall, Joyce Roberts, Loretta Ackerlind and Sam Lopez. Please keep them in your prayers.

Kenalyn Cromwell will be leaving us for a while. Her husband has been assigned to the embassy in Belgium. She plans to be a "lady of leisure" for the next three years. Have a great adventure, Kenalyn. We look forward to your return.

Bobbi Clemens

The past two months my reports got eaten up in cyberspace and did not reach you. I shall try again.

We did try. The "Naming the Room" Contest had only two entries so have decided that the best name for it is the "Quilting Room". You no longer need to call me about using the room, just call the church secretary at 763-7636 and ask to be put on the schedule.

The first week of May the Hummingbirds had their own Mini Retreat hosted by Dorothee Tremaine at Tyndall AFB. They learned about the DO'S and DON'TS of binding and had heavy discussions on sashings and borders and also the proper use of the Point Trimmer. Plans are already underway for another Retreat.

The Ladybugs' newest Project is making an Album of Mini quilts (idea comes from the night group). This month's theme is a Self Portrait.

The Sisterhood worked with Reida this month cutting strips for Comfort Quilts. They also enjoyed a lunch out with the Monday Afternoon Group at the "SHADE TREE". They are working on plans for our Christmas Party, to be held on Saturday December 2nd at the Black Angus. Here's a heads up for you, the theme is "Putting on the Glitz" and you may want to think about decorating a Purse. That's all the information I could get out of them now.

Quilty Hugs and God Bless
