President's Notes
My mother, who was not a quilter or even a sewer, once said to me "Quilters are such happy people". This was quite
evident on Saturday at our joint meeting—everyone seemed to have a smile on their faces. The installation ceremony was very special and I was overwhelmed with my friendship star blocks. Thank you everyone for your blocks, kind words and encouragement. I want to express my appreciation to all those who agreed to take new committee positions and to those who agreed to continue in their present jobs. Our guild could not exist without an active membership. I will do my best to live up to your expectations. My presidency is "a work in progress" so please feel free to give me your input. Your officers are busy planning for the New Year. We hope to have a little something for everyone. Also, I would like to give a special word of thanks to Susie for all her hard work these past two years. There was a lot going on behind the scenes that required her expertise. She is a real SABQG treasure.
Keep stitching and remember that smile,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

From Susie to You
A special "Thank you" for the beautiful friendship star blocks. I hope to start putting the blocks together soon. By the way---the friendship star is my favorite pattern and my personal logo. This will be a nice remembrance for the past two years and you all.
God Bless You---Susie

HELP!
I need your help. I am trying to develop a list of ALL the "giving" projects the guild has been involved in for the last two years. We have done an incredible job but I don't think any of us realize just how much we have done. If you have been involved in projects such as Cruiser Quilts, Veterans Quilts, American Cancer Society, Head Start, etc., I would like to know approximately how many quilts and other items such as bibs were made, how many quilters were involved and if there was a monetary donation (American Cancer Society). WHEW! Please contact me via e-mail, by phone or by regular mail. Thanks. Sarah Hough |

GREAT WEB SITES
This is my desperate attempt to neatly archive all the household notes, scribbles and clippings of tips, crafts, recipes, DIY projects and neat-o hints I've collected over the years. The paper pile is out of control, gotta move it online. I hope you'll find something useful.
A couple of the ones I like are: http://tipnut.com/bugs-be-gone-bags/ with directions for the little bag and the receipt
of natural spices that will actually get rid of the bugs, and the sewing machine mat pattern: http://tipnut.com/sewing-machine-mat-sewing-tutorial/. One more that I especially need is the Homemade Herbal Sleep Pouch: http://tipnut.com/homemade-herbal-sleep-pouches/. Carolyn

Cotton Theory Two Seasons Table Runner
Saturday, June 21, 2009
9:00 - 3:00
Description:
The two Seasons Table Runner is a 12"x34" reversible table runner utilizing the patented "quilt as you go" technique developed by Betty Cotton of the Quilt Yard. It is pieced and quilted in sections and then assembled. In the class you will learn how to quilt in sections and how to attach the quilted sections to complete a finished piece. I like making one side Christmas and the other side in my favorite colors. A basic understanding of piecing and a thorough understanding of you sewing machine is required.
Supplies:
• Two Seasons Table Runner pattern by the Quilt Yard (or Cotton Theory Quilting Book One by Betty Cotton)
• Sewing machine in good working order with a straight stitch and an adjustable width zigzag stitch (decorative stitches desirable but not required)
• Sewing machine manual
• Walking foot (required)
• 45mm or 60mm rotary cutters
• Rotary cutting mat
• 6" x 24" or 6" x 12" (or comparable size) acrylic ruler
• 12" Add a Quarter ruler ( optional but very helpful - I will have mine for you to use during class)
• Fabric scissors
• Thread snippers
• Seam ripper
• Long, thin Straight pins with glass heads
• 14/90 Topstitch needles
• Cone holder (or cup) if using a cone of thread)
• 4-6 bobbins minimum (wound with thread to be used on the back side, or the side that will be used less often)
• Several spools or a cone of thread (select a thread color that will work on both sides) - Masterpiece by Superior is a good choice for 50 wt; King Tut is also a good choice for 40 wt if you want more noticeable quilting but any 50 wt thread will work.
• Chalk marker (I absolutely LOVE Miracle Chalk because it removes completely with steam) - I will have mine for your use if you don't already own some - you will only need to use it to draw on line so please don't buy it if you don't have it already.

COME JOIN US ON WORKDAY WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25th
We will be working on the Comfort Quilts Project for this year. We are starting by making Friendship Star and Nine Patch Blocks out of any material with an off-white alternate color. Most of the quilts this year will be for the Abuse Women Shelter.

GOOD FOOD, GOOD FUN, GOOD YEAR!
Sixty-five members, old friends and guests were welcomed for our Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 17th. This was a time to share memories of the past year and recognize those who have worked for the Guild during the year. As outgoing President, Susie Pippin, thanked the membership for all their help for the past two years and stressed that each member is important and valued. Guild members in turn thanked Susie and JoEllen by presenting them with many Friendship Star Quilt Blocks.
Congratulations to new Officers
President - JoEllen Rogers
1st Vice President - Mary Nelson
2nd Vice President - Janet Ramos
Secretary - Joyce Harris
Treasurer - Bonnie Holley
We thank them for accepting these offices and pledge to help and support them!
The new Budget for the upcoming year was presented and approved.
India Belisle presented certificates to the 22 participants in the continuing UFO contest. The grand prize for the most completed UFO’s went to Rosemary Martens for a remarkable 18 projects! All of us wish a "good fairy" would whisk down and complete more of our UFO's!
Aking Osborne presented all the quilters who participated in the "WISH YOU WERE HERE" Challenge. Each of the quilters displayed their project and told the "story" that went with it. Members had time to view them all and vote for their favorites.
And the winners are:
1st Place - JoEllen Rogers
2nd Place - Bonnie Holley
3rd Place - Delores Fowler
Congratulations to all who participated.
As usual, following Show-n-Tell we all enjoyed a large luncheon and great fellowship.
See you in June!
