June 2010 Volume 5 Issue 6
Message from the President
Greetings from your newly installed President. If you weren't here for our May meeting, you missed some fun times. Bobbi Clemens installed the new officers in her own clever way. She said that she felt that she had to "raise the bar", so the bar she used was chocolate. Each of us had special directions related to a specific chocolate bar; mine was a Milky Way bar, to help me carry the Guild to the future and the stars. What fun!
Sixteen members brought Challenge projects to share with us. Each was a great effort and we all had difficulty making our votes. The winners were: 1st Place Bonnie Holley 2nd Place Judy Schaffer and 3rd Place Gayle Hodges. We hope that everyone who made a Challenge Project will not "gift" them and that we can display them at our next Quilt Show.
Show and Tell was great. Many of the members who participated in the Mystery Quilt Class with Sunny Malesky brought the quilts to show. How interesting to see how the same pattern looked different with the different fabrics and colors.
We have many projects and activities going on in the next few months. I hope all of you will participate. We are working on our Comfort Quilt project for the Sims Veteran's Home. We are asking members to make star blocks which we can turn into quilt tops. Our next workdays will be devoted to this project. The blocks do not have to be red, white and blue...do whatever you like. We are asking for 91/2"unfinished blocks to make for consistency. We have a Sit-n-Stitch at the Library in July and a community outreach program with the MLK Center in July where we will be helping young girls learn to quilt.
At this time of year, we begin taking sign-ups for Sit-n-Stitch and Hostessing for the General Meetings. Please put your name somewhere. You'll notice to side of the page new names listed for the committee chairman for the Guild. There are a few openings left...could you fill one of them. We really need a Publicity person. Think about it.
To all those who volunteered to Chair a Committee I give a great big Thank you! A committee not listed is the Christmas Party. This year four ladies have stepped forward: Sarah Hutton, Joyce Rogers, Donna Day and Gayle Hodges. They are cooking up ideas!
And Betty Williams and her daughters are cooking ideas for Retreat in September. I anticipate a good year.
June program is our annual Flea Market. Clean out those unwanted...why did I buy these items...bring them to sell....so you can buy new things! We provide the table, you provide the stuff (bring your own change). The more fleas the merrier!
June 14 is Flag Day. Fly the flag and keep our service men and women in prayers. Semper Fi.
Happy Stitchin', Beverly Pierzchala

JULY SIT-N-STITCH
On July 7, 2010 we will have an All Day Sit-n-Stitch at the Bay County Library on 11th St. in Panama City. This will go from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. so both day and night time members can participate. This is a way to enhance our community outreach program. Look for sign-up sheets at the next meeting. Please bring some sort of quilting project to work on at this Sit-n-Stitch.
