PRESIDENT’S NOTE

Wow! What a great quilt show! We should be very proud of it. The quilts were wonderful, well made, creative and many had stories to share. We sure have a lot of creative quilters in SABQG. I heard many good things about the show and the vendors, but only one negative comment.
Susie

"Thank you" to all the members who worked and made the show a success. A special "thank you" to Beverly Pierzchala for all she did to make the show happen and run so smoothly. I know it was a big task. A big “thank you” to Norm Gulkis for promoting and making the Quilt Expo successful.

Now to the sad part. The Boardwalk folks cancelled the 2008 Quilt Expo. I am sure that Norm is very upset about the cancellation also. We must go forward and be prepared for the next quilt show when the time and place is known. The top for the next Opportunity quilt is ready to be quilted. We can start planning and working on quilts to enter in our next show. Will keep the guild membership posted with future quilt show information.

March 17 is National Quilting Day. I hope you can find some time that day to spend with quilter friends, work on UFO's or go to the Junior Museum and quilt with Linda.

Until next month--keep stitching,
May God Bless You, Susie

Bee Keeper's Report Rosemary Martens

The Sisterhood is preparing a program about Round Robins for the June Guild Meetings. If you are interested in how Round Robins work, don't miss this program.

The Sisterhood is working on a block of the month among the group.

The Baltimore Babes Appliqué Group gathers on the 4th Thursday of each month from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Quilt Room across the street from where we have our meetings. Everyone is invited to attend. You don't need to bring appliqué to join them.

The Ladybugs had a paper piecing demonstration at their last meeting. This month they will be learning Cathedral Windows and Quick Grandma's Flower Garden.

SUNSHINE & SHADOWS, Bobbi Clemens

Several of our members have had surgery this past month, Shirley Love and Barbara Lamberson. We pray they are recovering and will be back to guild meetings soon.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all members who have lost loved ones this past month. The list includes: Sam Lopez (mother), Angela Lopez (grandmother), Sidney Fridell (husband), Sarah Hutton (daughter-in-law), Sally Bendschneider, (father).

To our many members who have been ill with one thing or another, we wish you all sunny days ahead.

For a little bit of sunshine, one only has to see the smile on Janet Adams face. Her love for the U.S. Marine Corp has paid off in a big way. She has been chosen by the Marine Corp to participate in a week long program on what a recruit experiences in "Boot Camp". This is an all expense paid trip to Parris Island, S.C., for this wonderful opportunity. Janet, we all expect to hear a full report.

Snowbirds, please make a Cruiser Quilt over the summer and bring it with you when you return to this wonderful area.

REQUESTED RECIPE - Cherry Pretzel Delight – Loretta Akerlind
Crust:
1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels (I use the blender)
1/4 c sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
Combine, press into 13 x 9 pan, bake at preheated 350° oven 8 minutes. Cool.

Filling:
1 (12- oz) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)
1/2 cup water
1 (4 serving size) pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix
1 3/4 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed
Combine condensed milk and water; blend well. Add pudding mix; beat 2 minutes. Refrigerate 5 minutes. Fold in whipped topping. Spread on COOLED crust. Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour.

Topping:
1 (21-oz.) can cherry fruit pie filling (I use 2 cans because it is yummier with more cherries! You can also use blueberry or raspberry filling instead, or stripe cherries and blueberries for the 4th of July.)
