March 2008 Issue
President's Note
Congratulations to SABQG membership for our wonderful Quilt Show! The success is due to the hard work of the show chairmen and the teamwork of all our members. We can be proud of this Quilt Show. I received many good comments by notes, verbally and phone calls. People were amazed at the quality of the quilts, the quilt layout, the friendliness and cozy atmosphere. I believe it was enjoyed by all.
National Quilt Day and Heritage Day at the Junior Museum will be March15. Please quilt some on this day—either quilt with a friend or go demonstrate quilting at the museum.
It was good seeing our "Winter Members" and I hope you all are having a good time.
Spring will soon be here—this means we have lots to look forward to such as the Retreat, Relay for Life, Paducah trip, workshops for making items for the Christmas Shoppe, finishing UFOs, monthly block exchange, "Wish You Were Here" challenge, etc. I am sure there will be something for all of us to do and enjoy.
May you have a Blessed Easter!
Susie
Thanks to the Volunteers
To all who served at the quilt show, I extend sincere thanks. You signed up, you showed up, and you served with enthusiasm. You even came early and stayed late. You made the show a success, and you certainly made my job easier. You are an amazing group of women, and I thank you for all that you do.

Susie's recipe for----Sugared Peanuts
2 cups shelled raw peanuts

Place peanuts, sugar and water in saucepan over medium heat and cook (stir often) until the moisture is all gone and the peanuts are covered with the sugar. Slightly butter a large cookie sheet and pour the peanuts on it. Spread in one layer. Sprinkle a small amount of salt over the nuts and bake at 300 degrees for 15 minutes—turn or stir the nuts. Return to oven for 15 minutes more. Let cool and place in covered jar. |

THE CHRISTMAS SHOPPE 2008
What: Sale of Handmade Articles and Bake Sale
When: November 22, 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 9:00 – 3:00
Where: St. Andrew Episcopal Church |
Committee Team: Aking Osborne, JoEllen Rogers, Beverly Pierzchala, Patti MacMonigal, Mary Nelson, Cathy Short, Marilyn Hermansen |
Come join the Team and help us create items to sell at our Christmas Shoppe. You've got nine months to think of ideas, get your creative juices flowing, and get working! We hope to have a large variety of items available for sale. You may create Christmas items but other items sell as well, such as baby items, embroidered items, pillows, etc. As we saw at the Quilt Show and last year's Shoppe there are people looking to buy quilts. So we are hopeful to have wall hangings, table toppers and quilts available for sale. Bette Haddon has started us off by donating the quilt, which was exhibited at the Quilt Show.
We hope to encourage projects by having several workdays. We plan a workday in March to make Pillow Quilts, in May to make table runners and July to make Christmas tree skirts. We also would like to have another workshop in September but don’t yet have a project in mind. Got ideas for us?
Last year one of the Bee groups, the Gadabouts, got together and created a large variety of items—all of which sold real well. So we are challenging all the other Bees to come up with a group project and we are inviting all the Bees to bring their projects to the September meeting to inspire us.
If you have orphan quilt blocks or quilt tops, we welcome them as well. We would also appreciate any fabric or batting donations you could make. Soooo…. Get sewing. Remember: Price your items. We'll pick up and store your items if you finish your project and need to move it on out.
SORRY…. NO ADVANCE SALES ON SHOPPE ITEMS!
WORKDAY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26TH, 2008 at the church.
PROJECT: Quilt Pillows to be sold at Christmas Shoppe
Bring sewing machine, sewing supplies and material. One adult quilt/pillow takes 2 1/2 yds of two fabrics and one piece of batting 45" x 72". COME ONE, COME ALL! Have fun sewing with friends!

Evening Report for February 21, 2008
Well Mother Nature decided that she would interrupt our group on Thursday. We activated the phone lines and cancelled the meeting at 5:35 P.M. A special thanks to Regina Johnson for helping me with all those phone calls. If we accidentally missed you, I apologize. We had a good program scheduled by Angela Mueller and Janet Ramos (our opportunity quilt winner) titled "After Nashville", perhaps we might be able to double up next month to get a taste of Nashville. The refreshment committee for March is Linda Kelley, Sally Bendschneider, and Helen Jeroski. Sit n' Stitch on March 6 is at Sarah Hough's with assistance from Mary Molinari. The fabric exchange and the basket block swap are postponed until next month and we'll do both blocks and fabrics then. Take care everyone and thanks to Ann Vassie for her "heads up"!
Respectfully submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers
