March 2010 Volume 5 Issue 3
President's Report
With smiles on our faces we closed the 2010 "I am Creative" quilt show. There was an abundance of work accomplished in just a few days. We even managed a record take down time of 22 minutes...with all quilts bagged and sorted by number for pickup. We also passed our number of entries. We asked for 80 quilts and ended up with 94. It was a financial success story. The net amount made will be available shortly as soon as the last two auction items have been dispatched and a couple of straggler bills come in.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUBMITTED QUILTS AND WORKED IN THE MANY CAPACITIES ON THE SHOW...FOR WITHOUT ALL YOUR PARTICIPATION THERE IS NO SHOW. YOU ARE ALL TO BE COMMENDED FOR YOUR WILLINGNESS AND YOUR SUNNY ATTITUDES!!!
As with many organizations we are finished with one project and on to the next. I have appointed a nominating committee as per our charter: Edyth Brown (chair), Patty MacMonigal and Linda Aspinwall (day) and Connie Bernard and Sally Bendschneider (night). They will have a slate for us in March. Also the audit committee is on board with Bobbi Clemens, Connie Bernard , Helen Jeroski and myself.
Finally we have classes on the near horizon. Sunnie Malesky will be here on March 13 (Saturday 9:00am - 4:00pm) for her mystery quilt presentation. IF YOU HAVE PAID AND NOT RECEIVEDYOURCLASS SUPPLY LIST...CONTACT ME ASAP! I hope I missed no one. Connie Eubank's classes are on Friday, April 9 from 9:00 -3:00pm on the Lakeside Sampler and Saturday, April 10 from 9:00am - 3:00pm on the Rosebud quilt. I hope to have supply lists by the March meeting for Connie's classes. Sunnie's class is full. If you are interested in being on a wait list for a cancellation, please contact me. We need quite a few more students for Connie's classes. There is a 15-student class limit, so far we have 4 students for Friday and 6 for Saturday. Signup will continue at the March meeting. You can call me 769-1314 and mail the fees, if you desire. Connie's fees are $20 for GSQA members and $30 for non-members. These classes are also open to students who are not members of SABQG. If you have any snowbird friends who might like to attend, they are welcome. Mary Molinari is offering us a class on May 22. Her information is also in the newsletter. So save that day for "Frame It".
Pray for our military and their families and for our country.
Respectfully submitted, Jo-Ellen Rogers

Comfort Quilts Report
The bibs are beginning to come in. A few were turned in at the night meeting Thursday. Fourteen Nap Quilts were given to Headstart and forty-eight quilts and/or fleece throws have been taken to the sheriff's office for use with abused children. Please wash the fleece before turning them in. Their label says, ”wash before use”. Contrary to what we've been told, they are not always destroyed after on use. Vickie McWhorter brought a cute red and white teddy bear for the cruisers. They will use new stuffed animals.
Were going to start on the twin-size bed quilts for the Sims home for veteran's. Wednesday workshop was dedicated to doing a mile a minute in red, white, and blue for them. These quilts usually go home with the families. We have batting and fabric to use. Let's keep quilting for our servicemen. Wheel Chair pockets are also needed for the veteran's. All it takes is a simple rectangle folded with straps for hanging. An extra pocket could be added to one side if you desire.
We thank you for all your good work.

P.S. Our show was great and the Quilt National Show at VAC is wonderful too!

Spring Heritage Day at the Jr. Museum
The Bay Country Jr. Museum is looking for some quilters for March 20, 2010 from 10:00 am until 2:00pm. So we are looking for some volunteers. I will be there and so will Beverly, Sally and Sue Gulkis. Won't some more of you join us? If we can get more volunteers, each of us can spend less than the 4 hours there. This falls under our guild's mission of EDUCATION. We must do volunteer work to keep our tax-exempt status.

March 2010 Membership Report
Ten quilters will celebrate their birthday in March. They are Patty Vining, Sarah Hewett, Connie Bernhard, Sandy Kurbec, Susie Pippin, Linda Aspinwall, Jo-Ellen Rogers, Bonnie Holley, Aking Osborne and Susan Petrosino. Happy Birthday, Quilters.
There were sixty-one members, thirteen guests and one new member, Naomi Winter, at the Wednesday meeting. Twenty-four members and guests attended the Thursday night meeting.

Requested Recipe
Line cookie sheet with graham crackers that have been divided into fourths. Mix 1 stick butter, 1 stick oleo, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup chopped pecans. Bring to a boil, stir for 2 minutes and pour over graham crackers. Put in 350 degree oven for 8 1/2 minutes. Note: You must use butter or it will not work. I also line the cookie sheet with parchment paper so it is easy to remove them when they are cool.
