President's Letter
It's been just 5 months since I took over the roll of President of St. Andrew Bay Quilters' Guild. As with so many things in our lives, the time flew by. Now it is time to pass the gavel on to Susie Pippin, our President-elect. Susie will offer the guild her knowledge and leadership and her wonderful love and spirit for the art of quilting.

And where do I begin to thank all the people who have helped me keep the guild running successfully. The board has been terrific—all the committee chairwomen who
knew their responsibilities and made it all happen. The officers—Edyth Brown who kept me straight at the meetings, Helen Jeroski who has made sure all of the reports to the "powers that be" are in on time, India Belisle who said "yes" and filled the first Vice President shoes and Linda Kelley who has done such a fantastic job running the evening meetings. And to everyone who shared a kind word, offered assistance and attended our meetings—I thank you, thank you, thank you!

We will soon come together as one at our joint meeting Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 9:30am at Byrne Hall. We will have our second challenge, The Spirit of Home, on display and announce the winners! It was so much fun to view the quilts last year and vote for our favorite! Please mark this day on your calendar and even if you haven't been to a meeting for a while, come, join the fun—see familiar faces and meet new ones. This is a special time for SABQG members to come together and celebrate our love of quilting!

Pete and I are busy preparing for our big journey across the pond to see friends and family in Europe and take our second quilting cruise. We had so much fun on the last one to Alaska. This time we will visit several ports in the Mediterranean, learn some great quilting techniques and make new quilting friends.

So, for now, thanks to all of you for a great experience serving as your president.

Sue Elliott

Wednesday Morning Meeting Notes
We had quite a morning meeting in April. Aking Osborne presented Bill Gobat with a quilt created by Aking with blocks from Betty's stash. The blue and yellow blocks were from a block swap that the Flamingo Flock did some time ago. June Bauman donated her quilting services and added loving, lovely touches. Thanks Aking and June for your time and energy. St. Andrew Episcopal Church is going to use this for a fund raiser!

The program was so educational. Mary Clark has been planning a presentation on toile de jouy fabrics for sometime ... but first she had to visit the toile museum in France. We all had quite a laugh as Mary shared her challenges to get to the museum. Finally, she and Bette Haddon visited the toile museum in Jouy en Josas, France. Mary had pictures of the different varieties of toile and shared the history.

The land surrounding the factory where the fabrics were printed was used for drying the fabric in the sun so now the gardens surrounding the museum depict the fabrics drying in the sun. Thank you, Mary, for a great presentation!

Thursday Night Meeting Notes
Our numbers were back up Thursday night, and we even had a guest from Australia visit with us. She found out about us on the Internet! Mary Clark, shared her French trip and a history lesson on Toile fabric. What an exacting way to make fabric. Thank you for sharing, Mary.

I want to take this time to thank all the people who made my job so easy the last two years. The guild has so much talent and has always been willing to share, support and volunteer their time. We are a great team! That's what makes our guild so successfully. I hope you join me in volunteering your time and supporting our new officers for 2006.

Spirit of Home Challenge
The Spirit of Home Challenge drop off will be at both the morning and evening May Sit n Stitch. Linda Aspinwall is taking the same special care with the challenge quilts as she does with the quilts for our show. Please make sure you have a hanging sleeve on your quilt and your label is covered with a piece of muslin for the judging. Judging will be done by artist Vicky Bush. Arrangements for the judge were made by Kathy Voorhis. Please contact Linda Aspinwall at 265-9233 if you are unable to attend either sit n stitch and have a quilt for the Spirit of Home Challenge.

WOW!! What a success we had with this event held on April 21-22. I'd like to thank the ladies that made donations, fund raised, bought raffle tickets, participated at the event, baked goodies, let us borrow their canopies, stayed awake all night, etc., etc. If I've forgotten to mention something it's because my brain can't think on only 30 minutes sleep (while listening to a dog bark in the background at 3:30 am) in the past 28 hours.
As most of you remember, our goal was set at $1,000. We not only doubled that, we more than tripled it. Our total as of this printing is—drum roll please—$3675.00. Isn't that AWESOME!!

A special thank you to my Co-Captain, Cindy Hughes who constantly kept me motivated and attended every Team meeting with me. To Helen Crowe for the use of her 4-sided canopy, to Edyth Brown for the use of her canopy, to Reider Surber for the use of her wonderful quilts tops, Beverly Pierzchala for multiple trips to the storage building, to India Belisle, Cindy Hughes, Helen Crowe, Sue Gulkis and Pat Baldwin for sticking it out thru the wee hours of the morning and until the end of the event (due to rain) at 7:30 am. I'd also like to thank my husband, David, for helping me to set-up and take-down everything and making countless trips unloading and loading everything. I couldn't have done it without his "muscles".

Congratulations to Cheri Boyle for the winning ticket of the quilt/wall hanging that was drawn on Saturday morning. She is a friend of mine that I sold a ticket to from my Bible Study group.

Again, Thank you, Thank you, Thank You to everyone for making our first year as a Team for the Relay for Life such a SUCCESS.
