PRESIDENT’S NOTE
It's hard to believe that the year is just about over. We have elected a slate of officers. I am looking forward to working with the new officers and to having a really good year. “Thank You” to the present officers and committee chairmen for your support and help. It was a pleasure to work with you.

Susie

This month we will be selecting a committee to check on options and make plans for our next quilt show. The first meeting will be held in June. If you are interested in being on this committee, please contact Susie Pippin-850-647-8915. Also, if you are willing to teach a class or head a workshop, please contact Jody Marking or Susie Pippin. We plan to have something educational each month. I ask for your support in making this next year a really good one.

Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 A.M. is our Joint Annual Meeting and Luncheon. We will have installation of officers, UFO challenge report, awards, drawing for UFO prizes and door prizes. Please bring one of your finished UFO's to show. Everyone brings a covered dish for lunch. This should be an enjoyable meeting.

By the time you receive this newsletter, the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah, KY will be in progress. I am planning to be there. I really enjoy Paducah and try to go to all the different quilt shows, admire all the beautiful quilts and visit all of the vendors. I am sure I will have to buy some “much needed fabric,” etc. Will have lots to tell when I get home.

Until next month--happy quilting and God bless you.
Susie

EVENING MEETING REPORT – Ann Vassie
President Susie Pippin presented the slate of officers for next year. On motion by Helen Jeroski duly seconded, the slate was approved unanimously.
... President - Susie Pippin
... 1st Vice President - Jody Marking
... 2nd Vice President - Jo-Ellen Rogers
... Treasurer - Bonnie Holley
... Secretary (daytime meetings) - Beverly Pierzchala

Proposals have been made to change certain portions of the bylaws. One proposed change would be to make the evening meeting secretary an officer of the guild and elect him/her. Sarah Hough made the motion that the secretary for evening meetings be approved after the vote on changing the bylaws. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

Regina Johnson mentioned the upcoming Blountstown Pioneer Day. They are asking our members to share quilts for the weekend event. Regina has made the opportunity quilt for the group. Contact Regina for further information.

Volunteers are needed for committees next year. Sam Lopez offered to remain librarian for the evening meetings. Other committee assignments needed are Patchwords, circulation, publicity, quilt show, and hospitality.

Sarah Hough and Donna Gibbens were pleased with the participation in the "Gift Bag Challenge." The challenge was to make an 8 1⁄2" x 11" quilt inspired by a gift bag. The quilts, with the bags, were displayed. They will also be displayed at the May luncheon. After that the gift bags will be re-issued to those who would like to make another quilt (or make their first one).

Jo-Ellen Rogers visited Quilting By the Bay on St. Patrick’s Day (National Quilt Day) and entered a contest for Quilt Queen and Quilt Princess for a year. She won the Princess slot and gets 15% off all fabric purchased for the next year.

PROGRAM: Founders of the Flamingo Flock Block mini group, Sally Bendschneider and Linda Kelley, presented the program. Sally and Linda displayed their hats, shirts, purses and jewelry all displaying flamingos of some sort. They even shared their "secret" signal for other quilters to easily identify any of them while shopping. They explained the "rules" of their group. The members who showed finished projects were Jo-Ellen Rogers, Sally Bendschneider, Donna Gibbens, Sarah Hough, Regina Johnson, Helen Jeroski, Angela Mueller, and Reida Serber.

The refreshment committee (Angela Mueller, Barbara Sielke and Janet Ramos) did their usual fine job.

RELAY FOR LIFE – Helen Russo, Team Captain
APRIL 20-21, 2007
Tommy Oliver Stadium

Begins Friday at 6 p.m., Ends Saturday at 12 p.m.

WOW!! We did it two years in a row. We more than tripled our $1000 goal. “Thank You” to all our Team Members and volunteers who made this year a success. A special thanks to my Co-Captains Sue Gulkis and Cindy Hughes (who stayed all night). Also, a special thanks to Aking Osborne, who made the raffle quilt, Jean Crowell, who machine quilted it, Bobbi Clemens, who stitched the binding and sleeve, Sue Gulkis and Beverly Pierzchala for the label, Helen Crowe, who loaned us her canopy and stayed with me during the night and to her husband, Ken, who took down the canopy. To Edyth Brown for loaning us her canopy, too. To Norm and Sue Gulkis for helping David and me setup the canopies and also for bringing tables, chairs, sewing machines, etc. To Beverly for bringing the quilt stand, SABQG banner, etc. To everyone who helped with the take down. To everyone who made a monetary donation. Since I'm operating with no sleep for over 30 hours, I hope that I haven't left anyone out.

Two of our own members won the raffles. Aking Osborne won the Quilt and Sandy Sturgis won the Stereo that was donated by Mary Molinari. Thanks to everyone who donated items for the Trail Mix and children's pillow project. To everyone who stayed Thursday night and helped to put together the Trail Mix. They both went pretty well.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

REQUESTED RECIPES
Donna Gibbens - Coconut Cheese Pie
1 1/2 tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
2 2/3 cups (about) Baker's Angel flake coconut
4 eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese
3 tbsp. lemon juice
Spread butter evenly over bottom and sides of 9-inch pie pan. Press 1 1/3 cups of the coconut into butter, forming a shell. Place 1 cup of the coconut, the eggs, sugar, cream cheese and lemon juice in blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, about 1 1/2 minutes. Pour into coconut shell. Sprinkle remaining coconut in a ring around top and in center. Bake at 325 F. for 30 minutes. (If coconut on top browns too quickly, cover with a circle of aluminum foil.) Serve warm or cool; refrigerate any leftover pie.

Loretta Akerlind - Texas Caviar
2 or 3 cans black-eyed peas, drained and rinsed
1 can Rotel or other diced tomatoes with peppers
1/2 purple onion, chopped
1 to 3 fresh tomatoes, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 avocados, chopped
1 to 2 tablespoons fresh chopped cilantro
1 fresh lime, use the juice
3/4 cup zesty Italian bottled salad dressing, what have you
Seasonings: salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, etc.

Mix all veggies together. Add Italian dressing to the texture you like. Taste, then add the seasonings to your taste. Some like it hot, some not so hot. Good with Tostitos, etc.
