President's Note
This month will end my term as President of SABQG and it does not seem like it has been two years. It was my honor to serve in this position and I have enjoyed it. I have met and got to know lots of new people and members Made many new friends and treasure their friendship. Thank you to all the officers and committee chairmen for all you have done and for your support. Also, I want to thank our members for your support. Having a successful guild is like running a big business. It takes many hard working and dedicated people to fill the positions and do the many jobs and this I believe we have done. The guild and all the members will always be special to me and I am grateful to be a part of the organization.
We have a great slate of officers to install this month. Please support them and lets all continue to work for the good of SABQG.
Keep stitching,
May God Bless You,
Susie

Life is like a patchwork quilt
And each little patch is a day,
Some patches are rosy, happy and bright,
And some are dark and gray.
But each little patch as it's fitted in
And sewn to keep it together
Makes a finished block in this life of ours
Filled with sun, and with rainy weather.
So let me work on Life's patchwork quilt
Through the rainy days and the sun—
Trusting that when I have finished my block
The Master may say: "Well done."
Elizabeth Ryan DeCoursey.

A Winning Quilt
Ruth Biehl sent me a photo of her quilt, World Without End. She entered it the Charlotte Quilt Guild
show and it won a blue ribbon! It is hand appliquéd, hand pieced and hand quilted. Ruth and I attended the Florida Handwork Gathering in 1997 (I think it was). Ruth has finished her quilt; I am still working on the appliqué. Oh well, some day maybe mine will be done. Just thought I would send the picture along to you. A great UFO finished!

Spring Retreat 2008
Wow! What a wonderful time we had at the Spring 2008 Retreat. There were a total of 33 attendees. On Friday everyone set up their area and began sewing, visiting, and just relaxing. After dinner we all gathered for the game of Quilto. Everyone left with a prize and the Grand prize for getting a coverall went to Rita Surber.
During the day on Saturday several attendees visited a quilt store while others sewed, napped, visited others or made a Wal-Mart runs. After dinner on Saturday night we ventured back to the 1950"s and had a Quilt Ladies Sock Hop complete with a game of Spin the Bottle. Everyone received a hot pink neck scarf, a pair of bobby socks, and memorabilia from the 50‘s. We even had a visit from non other than Elvis Presley. Yes, the King is still alive!
Malinda Hugnall won the music trivia game and the guessed the closest number of M&M”s in the jar. The prestigious honor of being crown Wal-Mart Queen by Elvis went to Judy Poppell. Sue Gulkis won the Challenge Quilt Blocks. So get busy SueG. We are very anxious to see the top all put together.
I want to give a special thanks to Susie Pippin, Pat Watson, Dolores Fowler and Ann Pyle for all their help in making this Retreat such a success. They are all such good sports and I could not have done it without them.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Holley, Retreat Coordinator
PS. I received a phone call from Blue Springs Conference Center and it seem that one of their roll-up extension cords is missing. If anyone picked it up thinking it belonged to a guild member, please let me know.

SABQG Evening Report For April 17, 2008
The evening began with some homemade refreshments by Regina Johnson and Jo-Ellen Rogers. There were door prizes of small wall hangings by Regina and scissor bobs from Jo-Ellen. We had 36 members and 2 guests in attendance. There was plenty of business to go over with Sandy Sturgis' block swap, approval vote for the 2008-09 officers, retreat report (Back to the 50's---thanks to Bonnie Holley, Ann Pyle and Delores Fowler and Elvis (Susie Pippin), Aking's (Wish You Were Here) which is due at the joint meeting on May 17 at 9:30 am, and some information from the Quilt Show committee. Bobbi Clemons gave us a real treat with her basket program. Bobbi has been hand quilting up a storm. On that topic of programs...I forget to include a THANK YOU TO REIDA SURBER FOR LAST MONTHS INFORMATIVE LOOK AT THE UNDER-GROUND RAILROAD. Please excuse my blunder. I really enjoyed the program and I am sure that I was not the only one. Sit n' Stitch will be at Linda Kelley's on May 1 at 7:00 pm.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO EXPRESS YOUR APPRECIATION TO OUR PROGRAM PRESENTERS.......THEY PUT ALOT OF EFFORT AND RESEARCH INTO THEIR PRESENTATIONS.

A Thank You and A Request
Dear Quilters,
There are infants, toddlers and preschoolers in the Early Head start and Head start program who will benefit greatly from your creative efforts. Please think of them as you discover unwanted fabric, orphan blocks and U.F.O.s during your sewing room spring-cleaning. The bibs and nap quilts you can make for them with these finds will get a lot of loving, cuddling use by these little ones. Your past generosity has been greatly appreciated by the children and teachers in these programs. We have added two additional classes this past year, so we have more babies to bib and tuckered toddlers and preschoolers to help snuggle at naptime. Each one of you has made a difference in a child's life with your beautiful donations and I'm proud and pleased to be able to see this on a daily basis.
Thank you,
Sally Ann Bendschneider

Rainbow Exchange Extension
I'm sorry for missing the Thursday night meeting. That meant the night group could not turn in their black and white fat quarters or pick up their green ones. Life just gets in the way sometimes. We will do the black and white at the May meeting. This is best so there will be a greater selection of fat quarters to choose from. So, in May I will get black and white from anyone who want to join us in the exchange and in June I will give back all the fat quarters. Hope this is ok. Linda Aspinwall.
FOUND!!!
I had found a cream colored sweater at the evening meeting. Call me as I have the sweater. Thanks, Jo-Ellen
