May 2009 Volume 4 Issue 5
President's Report
May is our Yearly Official Meeting with installation of officers and is a joint meeting of the day and night
groups. It is a pot luck so bring something good. Well we have finished an entire year and most of the preparations are set for next year. I am looking forward to the Joint May Pot Luck and the installation of officers and introduction of the new committee members. I think we have a good selection of both day and night members to assist the guild in our programs and projects. We have some retiring officers and committee women and I offer each one my heartfelt thanks for their services.
We will be continuing some old favorites and trying out some new ideas. "Work night" Thursdays to be held on the 4th Thursday of the month from 6:00-8:30 pm is a new idea and hopefully will be ready to go in June.
The opportunity quilt is under way, the chairwoman for the Christmas Shoppe is on board, the Christmas Luncheon will be December 5 at the Boatyard, the 2010 quilt show has some chairwomen and most of the committee positions have been filled. As I prepare to leave for Paducah I can relax with the knowledge that my preparation work for the new year is complete.
We will be using last years "wish list" as a reference for our programs. The list came in a little late last year to be used. If you have an idea or are willing to do a program, please call Mary Nelson or Sally Bendschneider. Either one would love to have your input or even better yet an idea with a volunteer attached to it.
Thanks so much for your gracious cooperation this year. I have enjoyed 2008-09 and look forward to 2009-10. God Bless you and good health to you and yours.
Respectfully submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

The Hummingbirds are helping Edyth Brown with the day Sit'n'stitch. Sarah Hough and Sam Lopez are working on the night sit'n'stitch.
Think about the change in the Hostess Program. If it's your birthday you bring something. Beverly has an item in the Newsletter explaining. Thanks so much for your gracious cooperation this year. I have enjoyed 2008-09 and look forward to 2009-10. God Bless you and good health to you and yours.

Evening Meeting, April 16, 2009
We had a great crowd, 38 members and 1 guest. Refreshments were furnished by Diane McKee, JoEllen Rogers, Carol Schwartz and Linda Kelly. Thanks for the wonderful spread, there wasn't much left by the time the meeting was over. In fact many of us made a trip back after the meeting! Diane also brought door prizes, everyone likes to win something.
Susie Pippin gave the names of the nominees for the upcoming officers. There were no nominations from the floor. Nominees were accepted.
It was decided that the evening group would have an evening workday, the last Thursday of each month was decided upon. Jo Ellen will make the arrangements. Notification will be in the newsletter when this has been arranged.
Mary Clark gave a wonderful program on "siggies". She had several stories about the siggies she had received over the years and a wonderful display of all the ones that she has received. She even had lots of letters from the folks that sent theirs' to her. Thanks to Mary for a great program. Several people enjoyed the display after the meeting, asking lots of questions on how to get started.
The Mile-A-Minute class has been rescheduled for May 2nd at the church. This has been rescheduled from April because of a scheduling conflict with the church.
May's meeting will be a joint meeting on the 16th beginning at 9:30 with the swearing of the new officers and a short meeting. Then a potluck lunch, please remember to bring a dish and a placemat. Sit-N-Stitch for May is on the 7th hosted by Sarah Hough and Sam Lopez.
I would like to say thanks to everyone who has assisted me in the past year. It has been a pleasure working with you all; I couldn't have done it without you! I have truly enjoyed being your 2nd Vice President over the past year; hard to believe it has already been a year.
Have fun, stay safe and be happy.
Janet Ramos

SABQG Centennial Quilt Exhibit
Our guild has been asked to participate in the Panama City Centennial by hosting a quilt exhibit at the new Bay County Library during the month of August. A full schedule for the month will be in the newsletter as soon as it is finalized.
We are planning to highlight quilts (from this area if possible) spanning the time from the incorporation of Panama City in 1909 to the present. We need your help in locating quilts. Ever see a "bed turning"? We would also like to include one in the exhibit.
Please bring any quilts you have that fit this very loose description to the May 16 covered dish luncheon. We will have time after the luncheon is over to look at all the quilts, photograph them and return them to you. We would also like to include the history of the quilt, if it is known. Your quilts will be well taken care of. The Library assures us they have great security. If it is suitable to the age of the quilt, the quilts will be hung high enough so that they cannot be touched. (Wait until you see my c.1970 20-pound "biscuit" quilt. It can't be hung because it would pull the stitches out.)
The SABQG Centennial Exhibit Committee needs your help. We would like to include quilts from this area, including, hopefully, some from our "pioneer" families. We also plan to exhibit quilting and sewing objects.
If you have any quilts, or know where we could find them, please let us know. Even better, join the committee and help us plan this event. Our next centennial meeting will be held Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
Have you ever seen a "bed turning"?

NOTES FROM THE HOSPITALITY CORNER
SIT-N-STITCH May 6, 2009 at the home of Edyth Brown
ANNUAL JOINT MEETING Saturday, May 16, 2009 This General Meeting replaces the day and night meetings for the month. We will have Installation of Board Members followed by a Covered Dish Luncheon. Bring a favorite recipe to share. Your food item should be ready to serve! Meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.
HOSPITALITY CHANGES FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR…we are going to try a new method of determining hostesses for the General Meetings (both day and night). Each member will be a hostess during his or her birthday month. So at the General Meeting, which you attend (day or night), if it is your birthday we ask that you bring refreshment. We will eliminate taking sign ups for Hostesses for the General Meetings. (We will continue to have sign ups for Sit-n-Stitch.) Everyone can remember when their birthday is, so you should have no trouble remembering when to bring refreshments.
If you are a part time resident, we ask you to select a month when you are here to bring refreshment. And if you miss your birthday, then bring another month. This is a trial…we'll see how it goes!
P.S. Hospitality Chairman is responsible for bringing supplies to make hot coffee/tea, as well as, paper products and table covers. Hostesses bring treats (both sweet or non sweet) and any cold drinks.

Bee News
The Frayed Knots are working on our Opportunity Quilt for 2010 Quilt Show, making progress as we speak.
Some of the gals in the Hummingbirds and the Honey Bees Group are working on a Row By Row. The Ladybugs will be starting on their Second Row By Row quilt in September. They will not meet during July and August for meetings but will have a Luncheon during one of those months.
The Baltimore Babs are no longer meeting in the Quilt room on the 4th Thursday of the month.
For Beach Bee Information call Mary Oliver. Information for the Seaside Stitcher's can be obtained from Carol Penrod. Information about the Sew N Sews can be obtained from Janet Adams. Not sure what these Bee's will be doing over the summer.
