President's Report
Well my two-year hitch is nearly over. But it has definitely been an informative and enjoyable adventure. We have accomplished a lot: 2 judged quilt shows, 2 successful Christmas Shoppes, a wonderful Bay County Library function that even included a bed turning, several classes, our 30th Anniversary celebration and I could go on and on. Actually you know what we accomplished because you were all part of the program. Our guild is a fine group of ladies and I am so humbled that you would place your trust in me to lead us through these past two years.
It is time to move on to meet new faces. I feel sure that you will be as helpful to the next set of officers as you have been to my crew and me: Mary Nelson, Sally Bendschneider, Helen Jeroski and Dreena Reed. Also my crew of standing committee chairwomen has been very devoted to their assigned tasks and I thank them one and all.
I will be serving as Parliamentarian for the 2010-11 year, which is actually rather humorous. I am sure that the new board is not counting on me to keep them up on Robert's Rules of Order. Robert and I have never been very close as I am sure the present board can attest to. In closing I offer my thanks for the opportunity to meet new friends and grow a little.
Respectfully submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

Do you have a star block pattern that you could share with the guild? Send it to me and I will see about putting it in the newsletter.

Comfort Quilts
Thank you to the "Gad Abouts" for 35 Headstart Quilts, 56 bibs and 3 burp cloths. I also thank those who have given me 8 more fleece throws for cruisers and 5 more Headstart quilts and 3 baby bibs. If I could add them all up I believe we have reached our goal of 100 quilts 9 throws for cruisers! Good Job
I need people who can quilt the veteran quilts. I now have 3 tops to be quilted! There is batting available for making the quilts (twin size). Call me.
The board has asked that every member make "Star Blocks" for the veterans. There is a pattern and an article elsewhere in this newsletter. We hope to deliver these quilts in November. Let's keep making those baby quilts and bibs! A lot of them are needed. Joyce Post

Star Blocks
As announced at the last meeting, the guild has committed to making forty to fifty new twin sized quilts for the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Nursing Home. The guild is asking each member to make a nine-inch finished star block (your choice of star block pattern) with a cream or white background (9 1/2 inch). What a perfect way to use up some of those scraps that have been piling up in the scrap basket! Please give your completed block(s) to the Comfort Quilts chair at the July meetings. Our target date for presentation of the quilts is Veterans Day 2010.

From Queen Bee Loretta
Happy Spring! What could make a "bee" happier than beautiful spring days? All this lovely pollen makes the Queen Bee want to stay inside and make quilts! The Gadabouts must agree because they showed up at the April day meeting with 35 nap quilts, 5 cruiser wraps, and 55 bibs for our SABQG Comfort Project. The Gadabouts include Sarah Hutton, Joyce Rogers, Donna Day, and Gayle Hodges. Way to go, ladies! And thanks to all the other quilters who have contributed to these worthwhile projects.
Don't forget, bee members, about the Veterans Day Project. The guild needs 50 quilts for November 11. How about some 9 1/2 inch (unfinished) star blocks (any star, white or cream background, red/white/blue nice but not required) for this worthwhile project? I'll bet your bee could work together to make a complete top in just a day or two.
The Hummingbirds held a cozy bee retreat at Tyndall Air Force Base in April. What a great idea for any bee, find a house or condo to rent or borrow for a weekend or a few days, and stock in the food, fabric, and fun. I heard that a great time was had by all.
We've all heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. You know you have digital pictures of your bee having fun together. Linda Aspinwall wants you to send your bee photos to her for the newly revamped Website. She will take them by email or on CD. What a great way to share your friendship and love of quilting. Don1t forget to call or e-mail your bee news to let me know what your bee is up to this month.
Happy Quilting from Queen Bee Loretta!
