November 2007 Issue

Happy Thanksgiving

PRESIDENT'S NOTE
Quilters we have a lot of good things happening during this next month. First of all is the Retreat at Blue Springs in Marianna next week (about the time you receive this newsletter. I am really looking forward to it. Sure will be nice to have several days without a phone or TV and with no cooking or cleaning to do. Just to be able to sew and quilt without interruptions will be therapy for me... The next happening will be our meeting and Thanksgiving covered dish luncheon.

I hope everyone is working on items for the bazaar. Lots of nice things have been turned in already. Keep up the good work! We have lots of baked goods promised also. I believe the Christmas Bazaar will be great. Thanks for all participation in this project.

The last happening this month will be Thanksgiving. I hope you will stop and think about all of the many things you have to be thankful for. We are blessed to live in a country where we have freedom, great opportunities and the many other things we have. I wish for all of you and your families a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Till next—keep stitching and God bless you.
Susie

Christmas Shoppe Report

The Christmas Shoppe and bake sale will be held on NOVEMBER 17, 2007 from 9 A.M. UNTIL 2 P.M. at our normal meeting place--ST. Andrews Episcopal Church on Baker Court. Please bring all your "donations" to our guild meetings on either Wednesday (14) or Thursday (15). As of Thursday's meeting we had 51 bakers and 42 crafters signed up to donate items for our Shoppe. The set up date is Friday, November 16 in the morning. If you can help, please come and join us. If you signed up to work Saturday, please make every effort to come. We need LOTS of help in our various categories: craft and "Quilt" items (We will be reserving several larger items for a "Silent Auction"---If you have any quilts for the auction, please bring them too!), Shoppe workers, kitchen help (We will be having a little cafe outside serving "cake and coffee".), and of course CLEAN UP. There is a wedding scheduled after our Shoppe in the same room so we need to be out of the area by 3.p.m. REMEMBER: all item receipts are donated to the guild. Should your item not sell; it will be returned to you. ALSO: you need to put the number Bobbi gave you on the "ticket" along with the price. If you do not have a number, please call Bobbi to get one. This is our first moneymaker for the year. The second is our "smaller" quilt show and opportunity quilt raffle. These two events will provide us with operating funds for the year. We have rent to pay, books to print, class teachers to pay for and the other many extras that keep our guild going. Please volunteer where you can so that this Christmas Shoppe can be a real success. We have a publicity committee working on getting the word out. If you took one of the fliers, please make a good effort to get it up. Also " word of mouth" can do wonders. Talk it up to your relatives, friends and neighbors. Perhaps if possible a word in your church bulletin. We are a non-profit organization that extends services to the community, for example 150 veterans quilts, over 400 nap quilts to the Head Start Program plus many quilts to the Gulf Coast neo-natal center. I realize you know all of this, but perhaps you can use this information as a "sell" to the church bulletin editor. Respectfully submitted, Jo-Ellen Rogers

BAZAAR BAKED GOODS SALE
Nov. 17, 2007

We have had a tremendous response to our request for baked goods for the Bazaar. Thanks to all of you.

Some instructions are:

1. Please do not contribute anything that has to be refrigerated.

2. Wrap your bakery in clear plastic wrap. Attach a label with the name of the cake, the type of cookie and the amount of wrapped cookies (1 doz., 1-1/2 dozen), what kind of bread is in the wrapping, etc. Also, put a price on the label. Prices must be in even amounts i.e., $7.50, $3.25.

3. Try to make your packages attractive by placing a bow on top, curly ribbon or a pretty sticker.

4. We are also going to sell coffee for .50, a slice of cake for $1.50, 3 cookies for about $1.00.
If you have extra cookies, slices of cake or any baked item, please wrap them in small packages. Or, with your permission, we will sell a half cake and slice the rest.

5. You may bring your donations to Byrne Hall Friday, Nov. 16 between 9:00-11:00 a.m. or
Saturday morning, the 17th between 8:00-9:00 A.M.

Rainbow Exchange for November is Red

Thanks to Diane Russell and her helpers for inviting the guild into her home for Sit'n'Stitch this month. Joyce Post, Carolyn Bowman, Malinda Hudnell, Irene O'Shea, India Belisle, and Cordelia Bealor did a great job of feeding us for the morning meeting.

Next month Sit'n'Stitch will be at Sue Walgren's house. Remember November's meeting is a covered dish luncheon, so bring your place mats and your appetite.

SABQG Evening News for October 18, 2007

We had a Halloween themed meeting this month with door prizes and refreshments reflecting the theme. Thanks go to Regina for her cute mini-quilts. I provided the fat quarters. With 36 brave members in attendance we had a lively meeting. As the song goes "the weather was frightful", but the company was delightful. We had various reports on our ongoing projects: Relay for life, neonatal quilts (Please use only all cotton---check you batting labels. There
seems to some question as to whether some 100% cotton is really all cotton.), quilt retreat (October 26, 27, 28), Christmas luncheon(December 1), St. Andrews Park yearly festival (October 27, 28--We still need someone to go to the park and represent the guild with some quilting demonstrations and ticket sales.), and finally your Christmas Shoppe on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17 FROM 9 A.M. UNTIL 2 P.M. Sue Gulkis gave us a fine presentation on the book, Facts and Fabrications--Unraveling the History of Quilts and Slavery by Barbara Brackman. Her enthusiastic program was followed by a lively discussion. A special "Thanks" go to Sally Bendschneider for her publicity efforts and to Linda Kelley for her flier expertise. The November Sit 'n Stitch will be at Loretta Akerlind's home on the 1st. The refreshment committee for the November meeting is the QBTB gang. We will NOT be having a potluck like the Day group. We will have our usual snack and drinks arrangement.

Respectfully submitted, Jo-Ellen Rogers

Bee News
Seems everyone is too busy to send in any information. Hope You are working on items for the Christmas Bazaar. The Ladybugs are working on the strip round robin and the Christmas Lunch. That will be on December 1 at 11:00 to 2:00 at the Black Angus. November 17th is the very last day you can sign up and pay for the meal. Call Rosemary Martin.
