November 2008

President's report ... November 2008

I hope everyone enjoyed Beverly Pierzchala' program of "Then and Now". I have always found it so interesting to hear how other quilters began their LOVE AFFAIR with quilts. There was much laughing at the stories of THEN and lots of aahs at the NOW.

I hope all of you are putting your many talents to good use in preparation for the Christmas Shoppe, which is just about a month away. We really need everyone to pitch in and donate items for sale. We did pretty well last year for our first effort and we need to do it again this year. Remember a big task is much easier to accomplish if everyone does her portion of the work. November 22 will be here in a "heart beat".

It is hard to believe that we are almost ready to present our quilts to Catholic Social Services for their Barnabas House. We still have a few tops at the long armers and some bindings to be completed. All quilts need to be turned in prior to November 18, 2008. Diane Williams will be on hand to accept our quilts. I will try to stir up some interest at the News Herald, but I cannot make any promises yet. To everyone who helped in this charity project.....you deserve a round of applause. Without the block makers, the quilt top assemblers. the quilters, the binders and the cheering squad there would be no quilts.

Linda Aspinwall warned all of us to get our reports in before we head to our Fall Retreat in Marianna. I am not packed yet, but my report will be turned in on time. We wish everyone could attend the retreats. They are so much fun with NO HOUSEWORK for a whole weekend.

Take care...keep stitching... and wear a smile,
Jo-Ellen

Tickets for the Opportunity Quilt are coming in fast, Bobbie gave out tickets to those who hadn't gotten them and it looks like we won"t have any trouble selling them.

Don't forget to sign up for the Christmas Luncheon, this year it will be at the Boat Yard Restaurant, it will be on the 6th. The cost is $20; they need you to pay when you sign up.

Also don't forget the Christmas Shoppe that will be The 22nd of November, contact Aking Osborne. They will be at the Church on the 21st to set up the items for sale. Please remember that you must mark your items with a price and you need to have a number to identify the items if you want them returned if they don't sell.

Sam Lopez sent around an order sheet for magazines

Beverly Pierzchala gave an update on the Quilt Show; they have only had 20 quilts registered as of the evening meeting. The goal is to have 80 quilts in the show. We will have someone on site to do appraisals of new and old quilts for a fee or $45, $9 of that will come back to the guild. Hurry and get your quilts entered.

Quilts can be sold at the Quilt Show, with 15% of the total sale going to the Guild.

Teresa Stonecypher gave an update on the Spring Retreat, it will be held in Destin the last weekend in February 2009. Contact Teresa with questions.

Edyth Brown will be teaching the Stack The Deck block at the January workday. These squares will be used to make a quilt for the Barnabas House.

The November meeting will be the 20th with Denise Miller providing the program and Linda Kelly & Loretta Akerlind providing refreshments
