October Volume 4 Issue 10
President's Report
Fall is finally here...my absolute favorite time of the year! I've always had a fondness for the Fall with new school beginnings, gorgeous foliage colors and more recently a break from the lovely Florida heat. Oops I shouldn't make fun of the heat. Some of you ladies say that you love the heat. But this Fall has brought us the loss of three of our very active guild members: Pat Baldwin, day secretary; Cathy Short, technique teacher; and Regina Johnson, all around volunteer. All three of these talented women are moving out of our area. They will indeed be missed. So if you are maybe thinking you might move.... stay put enough is enough!
We have two events coming up quickly: the Christmas Shoppe and our Quilt Show. November 21, 2009 is just around the corner.... Christmas Shoppe day. I hope everyone has some ideas and some items to go with them. Susie Pippin and crew are anticipating a great show so let us not disappoint them.
The Gadabouts have been very busy preparing for the Quilt Show. I know you are thinking ...it is in February. However, I am sure you are no different than I; time doesn't just move quickly. It flies! So gather your books and your fabrics and get working on those entries. This newsletter will have entry forms inside. Also Diane Russell is still looking for silent auction items so please VOLUNTEER.
I'll be at the Fall Retreat.... another good reason for liking the Fall. Remember to make use of our sewing workdays while we have use of Byrne Hall. Please pray for our soldiers and our Nation.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

Three things to remember for this month
October Board meeting is on October 6 at 9:30am ... not the 14th.
Night sit and stitch is at Mary Molinari's ... not Patty Hack's.
The second and fourth Thursday of the month is workday for the Christmas Shoppe.
NOTES FROM THE HOSPITALITY CORNER
Our Guild is a patchwork made of many people, all sizes, shapes and types. Together they form a unique work of art. We are sad when we lose someone special, but rejoice when we meet someone new. Let's reach out and greet each other when we have the opportunity to be together and enjoy the richness of friendships.
Thank you to the following Hostesses for October:
General Meeting/Daytime: The Sisterhood Bee
Group General Meeting/Nighttime: Linda Kelley, Carolyn Finlayson, and Kenalyn Cromwell

Buzz from the Queen Bee!!!
Along with friendship, fun, and laughter, our bee friends can be a great source of quilting information and help. Whether you need help with a technique, or you just need that last little piece of fabric to finish a block, quilters are always ready to lend a helping hand. The good thing about bees is you get to make your own rules. Some bees meet once a month for breakfast or lunch. Some bees have a designated bee day each month or week, while some meet only twice a year. Some groups sew together, some don't. Some groups exchange blocks or fabrics, some get together to work on their own projects. So get some quilters together, give yourselves a name, make your own "rules" and traditions, and you've got yourself a bee. Can you belong to more than one? Sure, you get to decide.
Joyce Harris reports that the Honeybees are just finishing up a row robin exchange. Along with lots of surprises and lots of fun, they have sharpened up their appliqué skills, and now they each have a row quilt representing their friendships to treasure. I can hardly wait for show-and-tell!
ALL CALL TO ALL BEES: Each bee is being asked to donate a basket for the quilt show silent auction. You know what quilters like! You know what they can't resist! Get a basket, or some type of quilting container, fill it with the good stuff, and make it look irresistible. I wonder which bee's basket will bring in the most money for the guild? Hmmmmmm? Don't forget to buzz me to brag on your bee. Happy quilting, Loretta
Baby Wraps
A "BIG THANK YOU" To the ladies that signed up to make the baby wraps. The Bay, Franklin, Gulf Healthy Start Coalition is seeking volunteers to sew baby wraps to be given for remembrance to mothers who have stillbirths at local hospitals. The Coalition will provide sewing patterns for the wraps. For more information, call Joyce Harris, Project Coordinator 265-8396. (I hope everyone got a look at the tiny items needed for this project. It made me so sad for the Mothers and the pattern I picked up is very simple.)

Thank you
A belated "thank you" for your effort in making our Panama City Centennial Quilt exhibits a success. We have had lots of compliments.
Loretta Akerlind - we now all know what "bed turning" means. Linda Aspinwall, my special thanks to you for your expertise in handling the quilts. I can't begin to thank everyone individually but thanks, thanks, thanks to all of you.
Just wait until you see the DVD! You have a treat coming. Sarah Hough
Welcome
We all must welcome and thank Dreena Reed for taking over the job as Day Secretary. It is one of the silent jobs but is so important to the running of the guild. I am sure after the last Board meeting she is wondering what she has gotten herself into. I promise we will be better.
