September 2007 Issue

PRESIDENT'S NOTE
Thanks to Lee Brahier and her granddaughter for the inspiring program on one template pattern quilts. One pattern piece, charm and scrap quilts are my favorites. It is always a challenge to see just how many ways you can make beautiful quilts by using only one pattern piece. I am ready to start some. Will probably be new "UFOs" though.

I am really pleased with the progress SABQG is making. The bazaar and quilt show committees are really on the ball. Several people and groups have already turned in items for the bazaar and tickets are being passed out for members to sell. I saw several people paying for the tickets soon after they received them. Jo Ellen and Jody are busy collecting information and planning future programs and workshops. Also don't forget Loretta's "Animal Fusion" collage quilts workshop September 22. Hope you will come. It should be fun and we will learn a new technique.

I had a lady to call me and ask if I would do a program on quilting at her church this fall and while talking with her I told her about SABQG and all the things we do. She asks if we had made quilts for the Vets nursing home. I said yes and then told about the project. She thanked me and all the quilters for making these and giving her Dad one in November. Her Dad died in February. Her family has the quilt at home now and it was a comfort to them to know that we cared enough to make these for the Vets. I have heard several other stories about how much these quilts mean to the people that receive them. It makes me feel good to know that we have given comfort and shown we care about others. How about you?

Keep up the good work---keep stitching!
God Bless You,
Susie

SSABQG Evening news for August 16, 2007
The evening meeting this month was a well-attended group of 40 members and two guests; Carole Thompson and Millie Slavik. Lee Brahier and her granddaughter, Melissa Snow did a wonderful program on one-block quilts. There was a multitude of examples of Lee's and Melissa's own work plus several on loan from the quilt shop. With the help of Cindy Marshall the presentation went very well. We are in the midst of scheduling some out of town teachers so keep and eye on the "Patchwords" for more information. Work day Wednesday is next week so if you have some free time come join the party. Please get going on your "donated" Christmas Bazaar items for our November 17, 2007 fundraiser. There will also be a bake sale as part of the festivities. Marilyn Hermanson will be in charge of the bake sale section while Bobbi Clemons and myself will co- chair the bazaar. In order for this to be a success everyone needs to pitch in. A thank you goes to Dardine Decaray-Sacks, Helen Jeroski and Linda Kelley for the refreshments. Sit n' stitch next month will be at my house on September 6. Next months refreshment committee will be: Pat Watson, Susie Pippin, Pat Russell and Kathy Rice. Everyone have a great Labor Day weekend and we'll see you in September.

Respectfully submitted,
Jo-Ellen Rogers

PUT ON YOUR BAKER'S HAT
As you have heard or read, our Guild will have a Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 18. One aspect of the Bazaar will be a Bake Sale. I hope you will support your Guild by donating cakes and/or cookies. Please let me know at our next meeting, in September, what you are willing to donate. If you are unable to come to the meeting, please call me.
Thanks so much,
Marilyn Hermansen
