CELEBRATE! QUILTS!
QUILT SHOW 2009
FEBRUARY 13 and 14, 2009

POSTED AUGUST 28, 2008

Plans and preparations for the upcoming Quilt Show continue. The show will be held at St. Andrew Episcopal Church on February 13 and 14, 2009. Our show will honor the 30th Anniversary of SABQG and honor the tradition of quilts and quilters who came before us. We will resume having a judged competition with ribbons awarded in each of the categories. The quilt categories are as follows: Bed Sized Quilts—quilted by one person, Bed Sized Quilts—quilted by two persons, Group Quilts, Wall Size Quilts, Art/Innovative, Miniature and Heritage. The new category "heritage quilts" is for quilts created to reflect traditional, old patterns. Patterns and fabric selections should reflect those used during the past. They may be made using contemporary techniques. Sorry no batiks can be used in this category. Also, new patterns may not be used either. We hope that you will have fun with this new category and we will have some good "ole" quilts to exhibit. Guidelines, rules and registration forms were included in your last newsletter. You may also see Beverly Pierzchala to pick up the required forms. Due to space limitations the show will be limited to the first 80 entrants. You may enter as many quilts as you like, but only one per category will be judged. Have fun and get quilting!

We also will have pins for you this year. That seems to be a favorite with everyone. We're looking into offering a class during the show as well. Aking is also gathering some great quilts for the Silent Auction. Our Opportunity Quilt is gorgeous. Thanks go the Joyce Post for spearheading this effort. We hope to have the quilt ready for you to see in September. Bobbi will once again be "Ticket master" and we're counting on you to sell tickets.

No Quilts in plastic bags. Respect all the work and time you spent on your quilt. Use an old Pillow case or make one from left over fabric used in the quilt.

The Quilt Show 2009 is to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of St. Andrew Bay Quilters' Guild and to honor the quilts and quilters who preceded us.

The 2009 Quilt Show "CELEBRATE! QUILTS!" is a judged competition. Only members of St. Andrew Bay Quilters' Guild may enter quilts into the competition. Any other quilts will be for display purposes only. Quilters may enter one quilt per category. If more than one quilt is entered in any category, only one may be judged. The others will be displayed. All quilts entered into the competition must have been completed in 2005, 2006, 2007 or 2008. All quilts must be in excellent condition --- clean and odor free. Quilts not meeting this requirement will not be accepted for judging or display. The Quilt Show Committee reserves the right to move a quilt from one category to another if the committee feels that the new category is more appropriate. All quilts entered into the competition must be quilted. Other types of quilts will be for display only. No kits or tied quilts may be entered.

All judged categories will be eligible for first, second and third place ribbons. A maximum of two honorable mention ribbons may be awarded per category, at the Judge's decision. A Best of Show ribbon will be awarded by the Judge. A Viewer's Choice award will be presented based on the vote of show attendees.

All entries must have a 4" sleeve casing attached to the back of the quilt. If the width of the quilt exceeds 120" a slit or opening must be in the middle of the sleeve so that an extra support hook can be attached. A secured label must be on the back of the quilt listing the quilt maker's name, address and telephone number. DO NOT use paper labels. This label must be covered with a piece of muslin for the judging. If the quilt maker's name appears in any other section of the quilt, it also must be covered. Each quilt submitted to the Show Committee must be contained in its own fabric bag (NO PLASTIC) with the quilt maker's name on the bag as well.

Quilts are to be delivered to the Quilt Show Committee on February 10, 2009 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church between 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. If a member is unable to turn in a quilt on this date, they may contact Linda Aspinwall to make other arrangements.

Quilts are to be picked up after 4:00 P.M. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at St. Andrew Episcopal Church.

"Congratulations to SABQG membership for our wonderful Quilt Show! The success is due to the hard work of the show chairmen and the teamwork of all our members. We can be proud of this Quilt Show. I received many good comments by notes, verbally and phone calls. People were amazed at the quality of the quilts, the quilt layout, the friendliness and cozy atmosphere. I believe it was enjoyed by all."
